The view from Julie about a minute later, having completed nearly half of her first orbit. Here Julie is approximately 2 miles north northwest of Mount Saint Helens (8,365'), beginning a slow descent from 9,250'. We are looking down the crater blast mouth and the building lava dome is clearly visible, including rising steam. The crater was full of dust and haze. Mount Hood is visible 65 miles away, just above the steam plume. |
