Mount Hood (11,239'), Bonneville Lock and Dam complex, and the lower end of the Columbia River Gorge. The complex consists of several dam structures that together complete a span of the Columbia River. The dam is located 40 miles east of Portland, Oregon, in the Columbia River Gorge. The primary functions of Bonneville Lock and Dam are those of electrical power generation and river navigation. Columbia River The white water is the spillway. The lock is on the far side of the river. It is 86 ft wide, 675 ft long and takes approximately 30 minutes to transit. The structure between the spillway and lock is the "First Power House" built in 1933-37 while the structure closest to the northern bank is the "Second Power House" built in 1974-81.
